As at Fri 9 Oct 2026Sunil Kapoor reported the project revenue dashboard was throwing a calculation timeout and would not load, needed urgently for a client meeting. Bethan Lister and Rory Maclean identified a query performance issue with missing indexes and optimised it.
Problem: Dashboard timeout error made a critical reporting dashboard unusable during a client meeting, urgent business impact. Handling: Bethan diagnosed a query joining multiple tables without proper indexes, causing excessive processing. She provided a workaround (filter to specific month) while Rory optimised the query structure for deployment. High-priority ticket resolved in 7 days. Watch: Complex dashboards with many-table joins need proactive performance testing; consider adding performance review to dashboard build process.

- created · Sunil Kapoor 30 Jul 2025 08:03We're seeing an error when we try to run a query on the project revenue dashboard. The error message says 'calculation timeout' and the dashboard won't load at all. This is pretty urgent. Our finance team needs that dashboard for a client meeting this morning. Can you help us get it back online?
- Public reply · Bethan Lister 30 Jul 2025 08:49Thanks Sunil. Just so I've got this right, the project revenue dashboard is throwing a calculation timeout and won't load at all. Let me check the logs on that dashboard. Can you tell me what query you're trying to run, or is it the default view that's timing out?
- Public reply · Sunil Kapoor 1 Aug 2025 13:08It's the default view that won't load. We haven't changed anything on the dashboard recently. It was working fine yesterday.
- Public reply · Bethan Lister 5 Aug 2025 12:45I've found it. There's a performance issue with one of the underlying data queries. It's trying to process too much data at once and timing out. I'm working with Rory on the engineering team to optimise the query. In the meantime, can you try filtering the dashboard to just a specific month? That should make it run faster.
- Internal note · Bethan Lister 5 Aug 2025 14:59Identified performance issue in the project revenue query. The query is joining multiple tables without proper indexes. Rory is optimising the query structure. Should be deployed later today.
