As at Fri 9 Oct 2026Customer asks if roles can provide read-only dashboard access while allowing query execution. Tobias confirms granular configuration is possible and notes most customers adjust permissions over time.
Problem: Scott is checking whether the brain supports granular permissions, specifically read-only access to dashboards with query execution allowed. Handling: Tobias confirmed the capability exists and shared that most customers start tight and loosen, or start loose and tighten, depending on usage patterns. Watch: Good technical engagement; customer is thinking through their adoption strategy.

- created · Scott Galbraith 17 Apr 2023 12:29Quick question - when I set up user roles in the brain, is there a way to give someone read-only access to the dashboards but allow them to run queries? Or is it all or nothing?
- Public reply · Tobias Renwick 17 Apr 2023 13:40Good question. Roles are granular - you can absolutely set read-only on dashboards while allowing query access. It's not all or nothing. The honest answer is most customers either lock roles tightly at the start and loosen over time, or start loose and tighten later depending on what works. Happy to discuss the approach for your team. Best, Tobias
