What was said
What this says
As at Fri 9 Oct 2026First discovery call with Ashlowe's Head of Data and Finance Director. Data sits across five or six systems and reporting is manual. Both see clear value and agreed a deeper technical discovery.
What happened: Lewis Kerr ran a 30 minute discovery with Chris Riley and Neil Bancroft. They described patient, billing, Xero, Salesforce, call and email data spread across systems, with manual exports into spreadsheets.
Customer view: Neil called reconciliation "a nightmare" and said a finance manager and an analyst spend a day or two each week on it. Chris wants clinic utilisation, staffing and quality dashboards across six locations.
Commercial: Neil asked about cost and timing, and Lewis gave no figures. Healthcare compliance came up, which fits the in-Snowflake model. The evidence does not show a tier, a budget or a decision timeline.
Watch: Alternatives mentioned were vendor analytics modules, hiring a data engineer or a custom build. Ashlowe has not yet implemented Snowflake.

Follow-up
Next steps
As at Fri 9 Oct 2026- Lewis Kerr to send a calendar invite for a detailed technical discovery with the solutions engineer.
- Chris Riley to find a slot for that session the following week.
Risks
As at Fri 9 Oct 2026- Cost and timeline were raised by the Finance Director and not answered with figures.
- Ashlowe is in healthcare and has not yet adopted Snowflake, which may slow the security and data conversation.
- Build in house and vendor analytics modules were named as alternatives.
Opportunities
As at Fri 9 Oct 2026- Two finance staff spend a day or two each week on manual reconciliation, a clear value case for the brain.
- Finance and operations teams across six locations could each be given access to ask their own questions.
Transcript
- Lewis KerrHi Chris, Neil, thanks for making time today. How are things?
- Chris RileyGood, thanks. Busy as usual.
- Neil BancroftSame here.
- Lewis KerrUnderstood. Well, I'm keen to learn more about what you're trying to do with data at Ashlowe. Chris, you mentioned last time that you've got patient data, operational metrics, and financial info spread across a few systems. What's that landscape look like?
- Chris RileyYeah, so we've got a mix really. We have a patient management system that's proprietary to the clinic group, that's where all the clinical records and appointment data live. We also have a separate billing system, Xero for our finances, and we use Salesforce for business development and corporate partnerships. On top of that we've got a call system because we deal with a lot of partner calls, and email. It's fragmented.
- Lewis KerrSo at least five or six systems there. Are you able to report across those easily?
- Chris RileyNot really. We end up exporting data, cleaning it, putting it in spreadsheets. It's manual and it takes time. Neil, you probably deal with this more on the finance side.
- Neil BancroftYeah, reconciliation is a nightmare. We need to understand patient volumes, revenue by clinic, outstanding invoices, and partner performance. Right now that involves pulling from multiple systems and doing a lot of manual work.
- Lewis KerrWho's doing that work? How many people?
- Neil BancroftWe've got a finance manager and an analyst, so two people spending probably a day or two each week on that.
- Chris RileyAnd on the operational side, I'm spending time on it too. We've got clinics and diagnostic centres: six locations: and we want to track utilisation, staffing, quality metrics. Again, that's all manual right now.
- Lewis KerrSo you've got probably five or six people who would benefit from being able to query that data easily. How are you thinking about solving this?
- Chris RileyWe've looked at a few options. Some of the system vendors offer analytics modules, but they don't talk to each other. We've also considered hiring a data engineer or doing a custom build, but that's expensive and slow.
- Lewis KerrRight. What would be the value if you could do that reporting in real time, or near-real time, without the manual work?
- Neil BancroftSignificant, honestly. We could close month-end faster, we'd have better visibility on cash flow, we could spot issues earlier. From my perspective that's worth a lot.
- Chris RileyAnd operationally, if I could run dashboards on clinic performance, utilisation, staffing, that would let us make decisions faster.
- Lewis KerrThat makes sense. And are you regulated? Do you have compliance requirements around data?
- Chris RileyYeah, we're in healthcare, so we have to be careful. Patient data obviously has to be handled properly, and we have some contractual obligations to partners as well.
- Lewis KerrThat's something we can definitely work with. We run everything inside the customer's own infrastructure, you control where the data sits. Have you heard of Snowflake?
- Chris RileyWe haven't implemented it yet, but I've heard of it.
- Lewis KerrRight. So what we do is build a data layer on top of your systems inside your own Snowflake account. You never lose control of the data. And you get an AI layer on top that lets people ask questions in plain English. No SQL, no dashboard building required unless you want to. You could give Neil and your finance team access so they can ask about cash flow, invoicing, whatever they need. Chris, you could give your ops team access to ask about clinic performance. Different people, different questions, all from one system.
- Neil BancroftThat's interesting. What about cost? And how long would it take?
- Lewis KerrGood questions. Let me do a discovery properly first. We'd want to understand your data architecture, what systems you want to connect, how many people would be using it. Then I can come back with a proposal. But in broad terms, we'd be looking at implementation over a few weeks and then an annual subscription. Interested in moving forward?
- Chris RileyYeah, I think so. When would you want to do a more detailed discovery?
- Lewis KerrHow about next week? I can bring our solutions engineer to go through the technical architecture with you, and we can scope out the data flows. Couple of hours, I reckon.
- Chris RileyWorks for us. I'll find a slot.
- Lewis KerrBrilliant. I'll send a calendar invite. Thanks Chris, Neil.
- Neil BancroftThanks, Lewis.
