Rebecca Nuttall, Head of Operations, described client data spread across three systems and said the brain would save time, but whether it is worth paying for is not yet clear. She agreed to a demo on Copperlane's own data.

What happened: Priya Raman ran a discovery call with Rebecca Nuttall on 2025-03-20. Copperlane is a payroll bureau for Welsh SMEs and charities, with data across an accounting system, a helpdesk and spreadsheets.

Customer view: Rebecca said there is no single view of a client and that account managers piece it together by hand. She said the brain would save time, but "Whether it's worth paying for, I'm not sure yet, but I'm interested."

Commercial: Priya positioned Starter, with 15 users and four connectors. Rebecca said she thought Copperlane has no Snowflake account and would need to check with its IT person.

Watch: The Snowflake prerequisite is unresolved, and no budget or decision process was discussed. The evidence does not show who else decides.

Follow-up

Next steps

As at Fri 9 Oct 2026
  • Priya Raman to book a demo on Copperlane's own data within a couple of weeks.
  • Rebecca Nuttall to check with her IT person whether Copperlane has Snowflake.

Risks

As at Fri 9 Oct 2026
  • Copperlane probably has no Snowflake account, which the brain needs to run inside.
  • Rebecca is unsure the brain is worth paying for, so a value case is needed.

Opportunities

As at Fri 9 Oct 2026
  • Starter fits a team of six or seven regular users across account managers, ops and finance.
  • Fragmented client data across accounting, helpdesk and spreadsheets is a clear fit for the brain.

Hi Rebecca. Great to see you. How's your week been?
  2. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Hi Priya. Good, thanks. Busy as always.

I can imagine. So, I wanted to learn a bit more about Copperlane and how you're working right now: what you use for data, what's working, what's not. And whether the brain might help you. Does that sound like a good plan?
  4. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Yeah, that sounds good. So, we're a payroll bureau, we work with Welsh SMEs and charities. We handle payroll runs, billing, client queries, all of that. Right now, we've got the information spread across a few different systems: we've got the accounting system with the invoices and the numbers, we've got a helpdesk for client queries, and we've got spreadsheets with payroll data.
  5. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Okay. So you're pulling information from different places. Do you have a single view of, say, a client and everything to do with them: their queries, their payroll, what they owe?
  6. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Not really. You'd have to go into each system separately. So if a client calls about a payroll query, you might need to look at the helpdesk to see what they've asked before, then check the accounting system to see if there's an invoice issue, then check the spreadsheets. It's a bit clunky.
  7. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
That sounds like everyone's wasting time. Who typically does that piecing together? Is it a dedicated person?
  8. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
It's usually whoever answers the phone or the email. So our account managers, mainly. They're the ones in contact with the clients.
  9. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
And how big is that team?
  10. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
We've got four account managers, and then we've got a couple of people in ops and finance who handle the backend. So maybe six, seven people who need to see this data regularly.
  11. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Got it. So let me ask you this: if they could ask a single question and get all of that back, payroll and invoices and queries and everything, what would that be worth to you? In terms of time, in terms of confidence they're giving the right answer to the client?
  12. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
I mean, it would save time. No question. People are in and out of systems all day. If you could just ask something and get the answer, that's faster. Whether it's worth paying for, I'm not sure yet, but I'm interested.
  13. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Fair enough. So let me tell you what the brain is. It's basically a layer over your systems: your accounting software, your helpdesk, all of it, that understands all the data and lets people ask questions. So instead of logging into three systems, they ask once and get the answer.
  14. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
How does it know what to look for?
  15. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Good question. We build connectors to each system. So you'd have connectors to your accounting system, your helpdesk, and any other systems you use. Those connectors pull the data, and the brain understands it all together. We handle the setup and we keep the data fresh every night.
  16. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Okay. And where does it sit? Is it something we install on our network?
  17. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
No, it runs inside your own Snowflake account. So it's your data, your Snowflake, and we manage it from there. No new infrastructure on your side.
  18. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Okay, that's interesting. So we'd need to have Snowflake. Do we have that?
  19. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
    Do you know?
  20. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
I don't think we do, no. We'd have to check with our IT person.
  21. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
That's fine. We'll need to have that conversation with them anyway. So the other thing to think about is, how many people would use this? The Starter plan, which I think would be right for you, includes 15 users and four connectors. Does that sound about right?
  22. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Yeah, probably. We might not use all of them every day, but we need to have access.
  23. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Perfect. So, how do you feel about it? Would it make sense to do a demo where you can see it in action on your own data?
  24. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
Yeah, I think so. I'd like to see how it actually works before we go any further.
  25. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Brilliant. I'll sort that out. We'd run the demo in the next couple of weeks if we can, so we can keep momentum going. And then we can talk about what it costs and whether it makes sense for you. Sound good?
  26. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
    Yeah, that sounds fine.
  27. Priya Raman
    Priya Raman
Brilliant. I'll send you a calendar invite and I'll get Hannah from my team involved so she can show you how it works on your data. Cheers, Rebecca.
  28. Rebecca Nuttall
    Rebecca Nuttall
    Thanks, Priya.
